Date of publication:  01 Sep 2017 Publisher:  DCI Belgium Publication type:  Report / Study / Data

Present report is a product of the EU-funded project AWAY (Alternative Ways of Addressing Youth), written by DCI Belgium, with the aim of presening diversion measures provided for in the Belgian system of juvenile justice and highlighting how restorative justice has been implemented. This national report therefore provides an overview of the diversion at the disposal of the actors (mainly the Prosecutor), on the other hand, the emergence of restorative justice in the juvenile justice system and the difficulties and debates which have arisen (and sometimes still arise) during its implementation. The report is the result of a research combining documentary studies, analyzes and
semi-structured interviews with professionals working with children who are suspected or accused of crimes. DCI Belgium interviewed five expert professionals who work on restorative justice  and ten of the thirteen Restorative and Educational Action Services - hereinafter 'SARE "- from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

The report is available in French.
