[Bulgaria] FOCUS: Parliament Adopts Amendments to Combating Trafficking in Human Beings Act on First Reading

18 Sep 2019

Focus News Agency reported that the Bulgarian Parliament has recently adopted amendments to the Combating Trafficking in Human Beings Act. The requisite to adopt the amendments derived from the need to act in accordance with international legal instruments and to eliminate the problematic areas within national legislation.

The amendments bring forth changes connected to the institutional framework for combating trafficking in human beings and to the National Mechanism for Counselling and Assisting Victims of Trafficking. The adoption of the proposed bill is expected to increase clarity in the implementation of the law, transparency of the performed control over the activities regulated by the law, and to fulfil Bulgaria’s international legal commitments.
